Bad Company 'Boycott' Worked, EA Folds
| Posted by djshamrock on Apr 10th 08 06:36 PM From ActiontripNot a while ago, fan site Sarcastic Gamers released a video in an effort to
boycott
EA's announcement that certain weapons in Battlefield: Bad Company would be
available only as downloadable content or through the purchase of the collector's
edition. The boycott occurred after EA's online multiplayer beta for the X360
version of Bad Company. When players discovered they won't be able to gain access
to all firearms, a massive outrage ensued, fueled by the aforementioned boycott
video.
The fury of many disappointed gamers obviously paid off since EA
has now changed its tune. Extra weapons included in the Gold Edition of
the game will now be free.
There's a catch, mind you.
Naturally, those who purchase the Gold Edition get the weapons out of the box,
while others can gain the weapons by ranking up their avatars to the max level.
In other words, you won't have to pay for the damn weapons, but you're gonna
have to be a really dedicated player to get your hands on them.
At the very least, this shows EA is inclined to respond to the demands of enthusiastic
gamers.
